the jungle fowl (cross) roo I had (see my avatar) was a really nice roo, protected and shepherded his hens around, broke up any squabbles, kept the little cockerels from killing each other, made sure the hens got food first, kept his eye on watchful cats, though being essentially wild, he wasn't letting humans get within a couple of feet of him ... and he crowed only when it was full light (and echoed the bawk bawk of any hen laying eggs ... )
