Hi. I picked up 2 chicks from the feed store on impulse. Per the store Cackle Hatchery didn't label them and should have. Per Cackle it was a surprise assortment deal and not knowing is half the fun.
Anyways here are my cuties. Also below are the suggested question answers.
1. Where did you get the birds?
I got them from a feed store.
2. Are they from a feed store, hatchery, or breeder?
I purchased them from the feed store but they were originally from Cackle Hatchery. They hatched last Wednesday.
3. If you bought them from a hatchery, which breeds did you select?
I didn't select the breed.
4. If they came from a breeder, what were they supposed to be, and what other breeds/varieties did the seller have?
5. If they were bought at a feed store, what breeds or varieties were listed?
Jersey Giants were separated and identified. The chicks I picked were not readily identifiable by the feed store owners.
Cutie #1:
I think this cutie may be a Welsummer or Speckled Sussex or Olive or Easter Egger of some kind. I'm really hoping for a Welsummer or Olive or Easter Egger. Why do so many chicks have that chipmunk pattern. I did read that if the eyeline curved downward it was probably a Welsummer. But who knows? I pulled out Marans because her legs aren't feathered.
Cutie #2:
We think she's an Australorp. I'm really hoping we're right. I'm thinking Australorp because of the white feathers. Looking for an Australorp or a Maran is how I ended up with 2 more chicks on top on my 5. I'm a first time chicken keeper and chicken math has me in its grip.
