One of my copper marans has always been much smaller than her hatch mates. She took forever to feather in, and is at least 1/10th the size of the others. We found her dead in the yard the other day. I wasn't at all surprised considering her stunted growth. I went ahead and butchered her in order to see if I could determine anything that might have contributed to her small size or her demise. Her liver was a little mottled, but not too bad. Nothing else seemed unusual. I did discover finally that she was a "she" not a "he" since I had never known for sure.
However, I did find something is there that I had never seen before, even though I have butchered many chickens.
Anyone know what this is? I think it is fluid filled, but I'm not for sure since I haven't punctured it yet. The square with the 2 in it is about 5/8 in per side.
