Naked neck hen getting hurt in mating

I have a naked neck hen whose neck sometimes shows up with some awful tears or scratches, a few from pecking by meaner hens, but the really bad ones are from rooster mating where the rooster bites the skin of her neck to hold onto her.

I've already considered getting her a chicken saddle, but that wouldn't protect her naked neck, only her back. I'm considering getting a beak clasp or a beak bumper bit (found one for sale on the Omlet site) for the rooster, but I'm unsure if it'll be effective.

I'm keeping my hen in a separate coop for her to stay safe, does anyone have any advice? Reassurance of the beak bit/clasp idea? I've also thought about fabricating a sort of scarf for her, if that doesn't sound too ridiculous.

How old is the hen? The skin will toughen once it is exposed to the sun . Scarf will be removed, by her and everyone else. More picking. She has to learn what to do. I sprayed mine with antibiotics, and that cover up spray. Every day. Put her right back in flock no problems. You can clip the rooster s beak a bit, like they do turkeys, it helps. Also I use a rechargable dig nail grinder to round out the points in spurs I hate cuttingg them, they bleed bad. Shaping helps and keeps you bonded with your roosters. They're tougher than you think.

She should not be getting hurt that bad from breeding, to me that sounds like an aggressive or at the least a clumsy breeder. I've had NNs on and off until recently when I've actually kept some and I've one lad one ever get an open wound (food aggressive rooster actually want after her).

Also chickens bleed a LOT from small wounds. My White faced black spanish rooster scratched his wattles on the blackberry vine. At first I thought was hawk. After inspection he had two 1/4 scratches and his feathers were covered in blood!

Sounds like a bad rooster. My naked neck got pretty cut up by my rooster when they first got together. Only happened one time and he is much more gentle with her now.
