Hi!

I got what I think is a Bantam Light Brahma last night. Her name is Dorothy, but I already have a chicken named Dorothy and would like to find her a new name.

Any suggestions? I prefer to avoid very popular names like Pepper, and names like Sparkles, Cupcake, etc.

A Bantam Brahma. Something contradictory about that. Like a midget giant.
Call her Dot.

I like to use names that relate to their country of origin (like French names for my Faverolles and a Dutch name for my Welsummer). But usually, I also try to avoid trendy names and go for the old-fashioned ones. Problem is, too many people are now doing that, too.

I also name for favorite people or characters from TV, movies and books. One of my ducks -- who sported a "pearl necklace" -- was named Grace Kelly. Beatrix, Cordelia and Althea are all from TV -- a "Call the Midwives" character, one from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer (though I would look smarter if I said she was named for a Shakespeare character) and the third for a doctor on a very old soap opera.

Nearly everybody here has a human name. After all, they are my kids! Looking forward to seeing what you choose.
