I live in south Alabama and I knew they were bad just not how bad till I was working out side and found 3 dead chicks from them. I brought the rest into the house and they are using the spare bedroom for now till I can find something that will work to get rid of them. I wonder if a bug light would work. 

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you find something to help. Keep us posted if you do. I heard about people losing birds to gnats last year.
