Natural Hatching Under the Broody Hen or Turkey
The backyard poultry production is promoted as a means of poverty alleviation and food security in Afghanistan and special emphasis is given to disadvantaged groups and less favoured areas.
Access to young stock on village level” is a major concern and limitation. To overcome this limitation, improved natural hatching was introduced through Female Family Poultry School (FFPS) program to bring necessary changes in practicing the traditional methods among rural women . A simple brooding nest model, made from mud was designed and introduced. The hatching percentage was increased from 40-60 in traditional method to 90-99 percent by improved one.
