Natural sunrise simulator

Has anyone tried using one of those natural sunrise simulator lights in the coop? My coop has a bad roof so I tarped it for winter since the snow came earlier than anticipated. My coop is so dark now and I was thinking maybe one of those natural wake up slowly sunrise simulator lights set very early would help and then set the sunset light to go off slowly around the natural sunset time would be helpful. I don't care about egg production but just wanted the chickens to have better living conditions. Being in pitch dark all the time would be miserable.

How does a roof tarp cover the windows? I hope your coop has windows for fresh air and natural light.
Tarping can work in an emergency but might not be a good long term solution.
