Hello!
I found this cite a few months ago when I started working at our non-profit nature center and we were incubating chicks. I had no idea what I was doing! This cite was very helpful to read through to see common problems and not-so problems as well! I joined the cite last week when a hen we had was not doing very well. She is now much better, thanks to the advice from someone here!

We have a Rhode Island Red flock with Alfonso as their rooster and his 8 girls. We also have a bantam flock roostered by Rallo and he has 3 girls. Our Bantams seem to have alot of problems and we may be getting rid of that flock and starting a new one with new Red chicks! I would love to hatch out some more! We free range each flock about every other day and the kids who come here love to see them. Occasionally they try to come up to the groups while we are doing programs and we pick them up for the kids to see, which can be very educational because most of these city kids have never seen a hen up close!

Overall, I love our chickens and love this job taking care of all our other animals, which include a Barred Owl, 2 Opossums, 5 Gopher Tortoises, 7 snakes, 2 fish tanks, 3 frogs, 3 aquatic turtles, a gecko, 6 goats, and an alligator! They keep me busy!

Welcome....

I'm sure you already know how great it is for city kids (all kids for that matter) to have a personal experience with animals and nature (life changing). Thanks for the great work. Tell us all a bit more about the center. So glad you joined.

Well we are in Jacksonville, FL and we do educational programs for kids. We have 50 acres of property right in the middle of Arlington! Most of our programs are geared for elementary to middle school, but occationally we get a high school groups who volunteer with us. We have three nature trails about a mile long total, which is an easy walk for families with kids, all through our hard-wood forest. It is alot of fun for everyone who comes! We are very reasonably priced as well! I just love this place and the knowledge we give kids and adults alike, whether through a program or just through a visit!

Say MOSH is looking for another non-releasable raptor to add, they have all the required permits.

Where in Arlington? I'm in Arlington...

Unless it's the Jacksonville Arboretum Gardens OR Timiquana Preserve... not sure where you are...
