Naughty Cuckoo Maran Hen

Quite a while ago we had a Cuckoo Maran hen named Darko (her feathers were dark and I don't have any pictures of her) who would peck people if they tried to take eggs from under her (she was not broody) when she was laying eggs. One day, she pecked my mother's hand and drew blood. Now that I think of it, some hens are protective even if they aren't broody and she also might not have wanted to be disturbed.

Ha! I have a barnvelder who turns into a fire breathing dragon when anyone comes near the nest box when she's in it. But she also always wants to go broody. I just push past her or wait until she's done.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had a hen that gets/ got very defensive over eggs!

I just had a visual of someone trying to pluck something from under my bottom... and realized I’d probably want to peck them too.
