I got a 6 month old lavendar guinea hen on Sunday. I have had her in the coop since then (she's alone) and am not sure how to go about making sure she comes home once she is allowed to free range. Anyone have any ideas? Also, if theres anyone in the New Hampshire area that has adults or keets that they are willing to part with, please let me know! I feel so bad that she is all alone but she is the only one I have been able to find available

Keep her locked in there for at least 4 weeks. If you have other birds that you can put her with, that would help. Like free-ranging chickens, she will get used to being around them, and should follow them. Otherwise, get her used to eating in the evenings, and feed her where you want her to roost. That's the best/easiest way. I've not had adults run-off, and I don't pen mine up for very long, but at least 4 weeks is recommended. It is possible that she will leave to find her 'home'.

Food food and more food! I keep mine in a covered pen/run for at least a month so they know where home is. I give them morning snack (game bird crumble and some scratch) and a bit more scratch at night so they know to come home. I also notice that they like set schedules, so try to let them out and back in at roughly the same time every day.

And do keep trying to get a buddy. They really like to be in pairs, even if the same sex.
