Hi again,
I need some advice on the behavior of one if my
chickens, who is chasing and pecking the others.
This is the same big white chicken I asked for breed/gender
id help on in a previous post... Breed: Easter Egger
Gender: still up for debate???
I am totally new to chickens. We got out little
flock from Tractor supply the end of April so
they should have been less than a week old, which would
make them 7-8 weeks old now. We are just about finished
with a coop, but for the moment, the chicks are
going out in a run by day and back into a brooder pen in
the garage at night.
Now, my problem: my big white chicken is constantly chasing
and pecking the other chickens.... She/he seems to focus
most on the 2 Buff Orpingtons, but she will go after
the other 3 EE's as well. We also have 3 blue Andalusians, but I
very rarely see any issues with those, they are a cliquey
little threesome.
They all se to get along okay in the garage
at night, but the fun starts when they go into
the run. How much of this type of behavior is
normal and at what point should I intervene? And how?
Do ya'll think this behavior willl settle down some once they are in
the coop/run full time? Could this behavior mean
my big white bird is a rooster after all? She/he is a good bit bigger
than everybody else and the only white one.
Thanks!
