Hello everyone. First time chicken owner. All of mine are babies right now. Oldest are 7 weeks and youngest are 4 weeks. Finished with chicken coop and almost finished with the run. Just trying to make sure I got everything right. Wanted to know about running a hot wire around coop and run. Best location? How high?

I'd run 2 or 3 strands to deter a variety of predators. Is go with 6", 12" and 18".

What does your fence look like? What materials and how tall? A photo could really help.

How do you plan to ground it? You need the critter to touch a hot wire and a ground at the same time to complete the circuit, preferably with their nose, tongue, or bare parts of their feet. Fur can act as insulation. You need to keep the hot wire and ground separate, you do not want to ground out your system.

If you install it right it is extremely effective against ground based predators. It's not that hard to do but you need to know some basics.

Thanks for the help! Fence is chainlink and attached to side of coop.

Finally got pic to load.

Would love to see pictures how other people set their up. Ones that are installed low to ground. And how you did them in front of gate. Do you have to step over it to get in? And do the fence chargers have an on/ off switch to cut them off when you don't need it
