LackI priced out my plan B coop idea last night, which is a 4'x16' lean-to coop that I would build from scratch myself using pressure treated lumber, plywood siding, and metal roofing. My materials list is over $900 and I am certain I am missing a lot of items I would needI'm also not confident in my ability to achieve a polished looking result.
Most big box hardware stores (home depot, lowes, etc.) Have a cull lumber bin. Damaged, bowed, split wood for like 70% off but has salvageable parts. Also ask if they have any lawn mower crates. These are the crates the mowers are shipped to the store in and are made from 2x3 up to 8ft long which are sufficient for coop roof rafters and the crate slats can be used for siding. They should give these to you for free. I look at it as an investment. I have had predators from bears to bobcats try to get in the coop and haven't yet.
With the additional ventilation the resin shed should be fine. Remember that chickens give off a lot of moisture in their breath too. Its not just about the humidity in the environment. Also, the doors on those resin sheds, namely the hinges, are the first thing to go.
Im a scrounger and love reusing old materials. If you get creative you can hunt down just about anything to save money.
