Welcome to BYC!

What are you hatching? If this crack is not along the zipping area of the egg, you can put a tiny piece of scotch tape on it and it should be ok. I have done this with great success.

But you can also ask this question in our Hatching Eggs forums for more ideas on this...

Good luck with the hatch and I hope this cracked egg hatches!

I have a mix of orpingtons, golden comets and leghorns. Part of the shell is missing on the side where one of the larger eggs smashed into it

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! If you are on day 22 with chickens, they should be hatching, are you sure the egg is/was not pipped / trying to hatch, maybe the bump just knocked off a piece of shell the chick had loosened?.

It had a tiny pip now there is a one inch piece of the shell missing so I placed it on a warm wet sponge to keep it moist so that it doesn't dry out and it still seems to be moving and is now chirping more

Glad you joined us! If the shell is missing where the chick pipped it's fine. The chick normally removes bits of shell as it zips the shell open during the final stages of hatching. Best of luck with the hatch and please keep us posted.

The zip line is above where the broken place stops and the chick has now made I good pip. We seem to be making good progress

The little guy didn't make it. The space I the egg was too small and the chick was to big. I am going to guess that it was not destined to be.
On the other hand I did have two beautiful chicks that hatched a few minutes ago
