Hi everybody, My hen has been very quite the past couple days. She seems to just lay around most of the time. Her comb has laid over and looks a little dull in color. Also, her tail seems to rest to one side. She ate a little strawberry this morning, but I have not watched her drink any water. Her poo was a yellow mustard color earlier. From what I have read, that is normal. However, there does not seem to be any other poo in her temp. cage yet. I don't see any mucus or other discahge from her eyes or nose. Her breathing does not seem to be labored either. Please help if you have any ideas. Thanks Mark

Sorry I don't know much about medical problems. Could she just be broody?
You could try going to the blue bar at the top of the page and doing a search. Try the word lethargic seems to pop up frequently.
Good luck,
Imp

What a beautiful hen!! She looks half way between 2 favorites of mine, a rir type and a black hen, Hennie and Molly. She looks alert and clear anyway. That is something!
Anyway, I don't have any medical answers for you, but I had a sick hen a few days ago. I thought she was egg bound, then I thought she had a sour crop. You might want to research those, maybe it is either one of those. Or maybe she is just broody. Is she vocal?

No that is not normal... The following link has crucial links articles and excerpts that will help you figure out what your poo might indicate (some things will have a similar looking poo so please if you can find time read the articles and dont get put off by any small sections with terminology that you might not immediately understand (it is quite often not of any practical use to the layman) ... I have a glossary to help you in the PRACTICAL MATTERS section to help you if you need to) ... unfortunately you cant definitively diagnose by a poo pic and as poo is an indication of their intestinal health then these articles are truly quite helpful for figuring out what may be going on

Hi I have a Red Sex Link that is acting the very same way.Started early last week. Comb layed over and she lays around all the time. The wife said she has seen her drink water but not sure if she eats. Not sure what to do!

I thank you all for your help. She did pass this morning though. I still don't know what she had. Her comb and wattles had become very pale with a little bit of labored breathing. Thanks again.
