Well it seems that soon I am going to have to have a sectioned off spot for the broiler cockerals since Mina is literally pecking them bloody. And after talking with the chicken coordinator for Farm Sanctuary and finding out the boys can get pretty rough when trying to mount the hens and can cause them to have heartattacks by just "loving" them too much.
Does anyone have any ideas on a small coop I could build for these boys. It would definately have to have easy access since they get so heavy and have a hard time getting around.

Anyone?

Build one witha top that opens. SO MUCH EASIER! Mine are all like that and its better than one you have to crouch down in. Make it wide, but short.

I'm going to be building a chicken tractor with attached coop soon
for extra birds, meat birds, etc... I don't want a new structure and I'd
love something I can move around. I may try a PVC design.

Purple, do you have any pvc design pix? That might be kinda cool. Paint up the pvc to look like a tiki hawaiian house

I was thinking short and wide too, kinda like the broilers

I would definately like one that opens on the top, much easier to check on them and since they don't really roost more than a few inches from the ground they don't need too much height.
We have 4 boys and of course we will take in any others we find so I have to plan for possibly more than that in the future. How much room would they need each. I have heard of them getting 20+lbs so I should probably plan on that size to get an idea of the coop size.
Lucas was thinking of using the side of the coop we already have as one of the walls, would that be okay? Our coop is actually a converted storage shed. Here's a pic of what it kinda looks like, but this isn't our actual coop. I am at work so I can't show you ours (I just repainted it VaVaVoom Red): http://s7ondemand4.scene7.com/is/servlet/izoom/BandQ/5029442072364_001i_v001_zp

What
would be good to make one out of, since we didn't "make" our first one I don't have much of a clue!

When I have the time (and money

) I'd like to build something like this. The whole structure would be 10 x 10. It would be about 3 1/2 to 4 ft high and there would be 3 different pens each with a run and a small coop similar to a dog house with feed and waterer and a corner roost. They'd be ground level so that it could be used for broodies and chicks.

Ok, this is and old pic of the yard, this was pre-chickens, as you can see by the greenery!

So the shed is the chicken house now and its the GREEN section to the left that I want to fence off for the broiler roos. I want to place the mini-coop next to the current coop and have the rest as their "run".
Would that be too small for them? I would let them out to roam witht he rest while I was out feeding/watering and such.
