I've caught the fever...chick fever that is. They're adorable. Seriously never would have guessed I'd become a chicken addict. My MIL actually said, after looking at some pics of chicks that I emailed to her, "Cute! Too bad they don't stay that cute forever." Well, I think my adult chickens are almost as adorable as all the chicks that I've picked up in the past couple weeks. I'm up to 13 right now, though 8 of them are supposed to go to a friend of the family once they get a little older.
Anyway. I got my first two feather footed babies last week and can't figure out what breed they might be, they're both bantams but have different enough features that I think they might be different breeds.
This first one is Mini - She's a little timid, the others step on her a little bit because she can't seem to figure out how to get out of the way fast enough. She also has the teeniest beak I've ever seen in my entire life! Super friendly, she's currently sitting on my chest under my sweatshirt about as happy as can be. Probably happy to be away from the others who would be stepping on her, though I did have to promise to tell the other chicks that she hated being held because she didn't want to be teased for being a "human lover."
This second one doesn't have an official name yet, it's currently known as "Loud Beak Chick"...VERY talkative. "Chirp, chirp, peep, peep, peep!" anytime I pick it up. It also doesn't seem to realize it's small, runs around with all the bigger chicks flapping its little wings pretending that it's flying.
And, just for fun and curiosity...any guess on this little girl? She was a last minute addition. Standard size, I thought the color combo of yellow and reddish was adorable.
