I'm new to keeping chickens and one of the 'hens' I bought has turned into a cockeral. He's a polish lace, somewhere around 16 weeks old and is now scratching most of his crazy crown off in the middle of his scalp. He's still got the feathers around the outside of his head but keeps scratching the middle part of his head bald! I've looked for mites both during the day and at night and can't see any. ...and I don't see any of my other birds scratching. Actually, I've only seen him scratch a time or two, but he scratches it bloody. What do i do? Does anyone know what i could do to stop him from doing that? Surely something is causing him to do that... I'm sure it's bothering him!
