In March we are getting 12- 3 week old chicks. They are going into the girls old coop and run. I know how to clean the coop but I am wondering what is the best route to cleaning a dirt run, I want to make sure there is nothing in the soil that might hurt the new chicks. The old run will be empty for a couple of months. I read here to put lime down, what is the best way. Thanks in Advance

What kstaven said.

If you use hydrated lime, which will work a little better, be REAL REAL careful not to breathe any of the dust. (The dust of the other kind of lime won't do you any good either, so wear a mask either way). Then let it sit at least a few wks before adding more chickens.
