Hello. Our chicks are nearly 2 months old (born May 6, 2013). During the day we've taken them into a big dog pen for supervised hop abouts. They are desperate to move outside. So yesterday we built our first coop. The foundation took longer than predicted, and we ended up moving the chicks into a safe and functional space that wasn't 100%: there was no lighting. SO this mother hen rigged a sawhorse with the brooder lamp on it, ran an electrical cord from the house and let their home to keep them feeling comforted on their first night. It was a long night for them and for me.
Tonight is coming and I just heard the weather forecaster call for possible rain. Eeek.
What can i do for lighting for them tonight? What shall I do for them this week and in the future?
short and long term help needed!
Short term: should I put up outdoor christmas lights tonight for some gentle lighting?
Long term: what about a battery operated light inside the coop, those nightlight ones or an under the counter one?
Do electricians come and give estimates to run lighting from house to coop? I don't even know who to call
Thank you for helping me find my way in the dark!!
Katie
