Dear members of B.Y.C, i bought 2 baby cochin (blue and silver laced) last Friday along with 2 California leghorn. Sadly my blue cochin didn't make it. It died Tuesday. Today, my last cochin didn't look too good either. She is not eating or drinking. She just stood there whereas my other 2 C.L chicks are hyper and active. I also noticed she hasn't grown much in size compare to the other 2 chicks. She has got loose stool and i helped clean her bottoms as the stool stuck on her feathers. Please help. I hope to still see her tomorrow morning. My children were in tears today thinking she was dying because we found her laying down unable to stand. but we found her standing an hour later. She tried mixing with the other 2 birds, getting in between them but the other 2 just ran away from her. It breaks my heart because i don't know what i can do to help except to pray she will make it and be stronger.
Please help. Thank you.

Second, you might need to move this to the forum for illnesses.

I will try and help. Give your chick some electrolytes in her water. Make sure that she drinks. You can dip her little beak in the water and let her drink. If you don't have any electolytes, try some sugar water...1 tablespoon sugar to a quart of water. Hopefully, that will help. Also, you could give her a couple drops, per day, of poly vi sol baby vitamins, without iron.

Tempt her little tummy with some scrambled egg. Or, wet some of her starter feed with a lttle water and see if she likes that. You need to get her to eat. They really like egg :) For the diarrhea, crunch some oatmeal up and see if she will eat a little of that...or, a little yogurt mixed with the wet crumbles.

Give that a try and see if it helps.

Thank you. I do put electrolyte and probiotic in their water. But i just forced her to have some sav-a-chic electrolyte water and eggs. I hope to still see her standing in the morning tomorrow.
