Hello!
Ok, so my dad bought me this waterer for my 5 Americana girls, and the waterer is just too cute! But the problem is that its metal, and the inside is compleatly rusted out, and this make the water an orange rusted color. If I put water inside of the waterer, like your supposto, the water becomes like this. I would really like to use this waterer, because I love it so much, but the rust is unbearable, and its unuseable!
I already tried to rub the rust out with Steel Wool, and the only yhing it did was get the Wool all orange. Please help me! Thanks!

If the chickens will drink the rusty water, I doubt it would hurt them. You could paint the rusty spots with Rustoleum to get rid of it.

I would think that a good sanding and an application of marine/water proof paint would work. Maybe even a clear coat.
I assume this used to be galvanized and it has worn off, this may need to be primed first.

If you have access to a sandblaster, that will take the rust off. Painting will work in the short term, but if you really want to keep it for the long term, take it to a shop that power coats metal. Might cost $20, but it will last for years. Good luck!
