Hi everyone! I would love some thoughts/advice from the experts. I’ve hatched chicks multiple times but only every 2-3 at a time. This time we had 7 and I think the humidity level didn’t stay up enough.

i Have an egg that pipped and zipped on day 21 but stayed in there day 22 and still this morning hadn’t come out. I helped her out and she is breathing andit seems is just resting.

The membrane was all dried around her and stuck to her so I think the issue was that it dried out while she was lounging around in there and she couldn’t escape.

I am just letting her rest all alone in then incubator to dry and out - should I be trying to give her anything to drink? She peeps and moves occasionally. She is trying to stand but hasn’t made it yet In the 1.5 hours since I freed her up.

Any thoughts on the best thing to do to help her? I added some wet paper towels to keep it moist in there but can she be dehydrated? Or is she still nourished by the told at this point? Day 23.

thank you all in advance for your help!!!

So she is out of the egg, correct? Did she fluff up, or does it look like she’s “cow-licked”? Do her legs and feet look normal shaped? I’m wondering if she’s got dried membrane on her - that can kind of glue them down. You will need to rinse her off with warm water very carefully and gently, and immediately dry her off and put under at heat source. If she’s got some deformity preventing walking then possible treatment depends on what. Did any others hatch or is she all alone?

EDIT: Also, I’m not really an expert, though!

Thank you! She is out of the egg. I peeled the membrane off of her this when I took her out of the egg two hours ago. She has a sterling to fluff up. I don’t see any deformities. She just seems exhausted and weak. She peeps and lifts her head and her legs cycle around, but it doesn’t seem like she has the energy to try much more than that.

There were 7 eggs. Six hatched. I don’t think the 7th was fertilized- it is really dark green so couldn’t see anything when we candled and it’s never wiggles or moved or pipped.

This little chick was the 4th to pip and zipped it almost all around but then rested in there too long, I think, and the membrane dried out so she couldn’t escape.

She peeps back when I peep at her, or lifts her head.

Hmmm, I’m not sure. Is she with the others? What kind of heat source? I might be misunderstanding, but did she just come out of the egg? Then yeah maybe she just needs to rest a little while. If she has been out a day or more, maybe put her with the others will help stimulate her to be more active?

She is just out of the egg. I had to peel her out this morning. The others are in the brooder - she is still in the incubator drying off. She’s alone in there. 😢
