i'm a new chicken owner (as of may anyway) and i'm trying to figure out if i have a couple of roosters.could someone look at these pictures and help me maybe figure this out?these are about 5 months old i think
I have to agree with the other posts. They look like roosters. Those thick yellow legs, The overall body shape, the shape of the wings and the tail feathers all point to rooster.
Those are boys. You can usually look for the "wet shiny feathers" on the back. They will get those first, then the nice pointed saddle and hackle feathers follow. If it looks to be wet on the back, its a boy.
thanks everybody for the input.it wasn't what i wanted to hear but thats how the ball bounces some times.
we have 5 RIR's and it appears that we have 2 for sure and most likely 3 roo's.at what time should we seperate the roo's and hens?we got them all at the same time when they were chicks. we realy like coming home from work and letting the chickens out to play and run around the yard.will we be able to let them out together if we have them seperated?how agressive will the roo's be at wanting to mate with the hens?or are we just dreaming up stuff to worry about?
