I looked but didn't see any posts or photos that answered the questions I have on building a run.
I have the plans for my coop and bought most of the supplies. I am not worried about it as I am very good at following directions (my husband would beg to differ, LOL) . But the run...I have no idea what I am doing. It can't be anything permanent so no postholes to dig or cement. It can't be an a frame type run as I am in Alaska and they need something with more protection.
My coop has a slanted roof so would like to continue the run with a roof same height (about 4 feet) and width as the coop. Are 1x2's strong enough to create panels that I can attach to each other and hold up a roof? (the panels would be easy to take apart and move as needed) Or do I need to go with 2x4's? How do I frame them together? I figure I will have the bottom boards and the top ones on the run by the coop extend a bit so I can screw them into the actual coop. That will help with stability too.
Roofing material for the run, I would like to use that clear wavy plastic so they can have some sun shining through. It rarely gets above 80 here so overheating is not a problem and there will be some shade. -How hard is that stuff to cut? Looks like it would be a pain. In the winter I will cover windy side of run with a tarp or snow boards.
My main question is: I would love to see some inside the run photos of the actual framing. I can't picture how it's put together.
Also, I have a very large, pretty tall deck. I have the option of putting part of the run underneath it (this would be easy to do and give them even more space). But would this be to stinky? It stays pretty dry under there (even now with snow melting it's dry). It would not be too difficult to rake it out as needed.
Sorry for rambling
Thank you,
Amy in Alaska
