I NEED HELP.... My chick hatched about 20 minutes ago and has a red sack attached to its self ....i dont know what it is so need help..

ill try getting some pics of it

Any sugestions please..

Well by the way i can see it...its about the size of a small marble that you would put in the water bowls in the brooder..

thanks

Here is what I would do... I would watch it closely and see if it shrinks up at all.
If its on the navel, it is probably unabsorbed yolk. The problem will be if the other chicks that are hatching see it, cause they may pick at it. We had to put a bandaid over one of ours once. That was an adventure.

I wouldnt put anything on it as far as peroxide or medication. Really, all you can do for now and is keep an eye on the little fella.

Keep checking this thread to see if some of our more experienced hatchers chime in.
You might also ask the mods to move this to the EMERGENCIES section.

Best of luck!

Well the sack just popped and now he is draging something that looks like a umbillicocord around
^
not sure if its spelled right.

Its walkign around fine and there are 2 more hatching with him as i speak.
They were due on EASTER DAY but i guess they wanted out so thats maybe why..

Thanks alot Camelot Farms

Yep. Sounds like the umbilicus.
Just keep an eye on it. If you can get a little piece of medical tape on there to keep it clean until it dries, it should be fine.

Im sure its nothing you did wrong. Sometimes it just happens

Will check in tomorrow to see how you are making out.

STOP!!! Before you do anything!!! I had one do that a little while ago in the bator. It had red stuff (yolk) hanging on to the back of it. Its hard to explain really. I left it and came back a few hours later and it has dried up and fell off. You don't have to worry!!!!
