Hi, me and my friend are getting a chick each:D we have the run and coop and are all ready but need some advice - which breed would be best? Never had chickens before but look after 4 at the farm where they will be living - another thing will it be okay to introduce 2 20 week old chickens to 4 chickens that are about 44 weeks old? They will be apart at night but out together in the day as they will be free range. Thankyou x

It will be o.k. to introduce the younger chickens to the older ones. Age doesn't matter so much, but ideally they should be more or less the same size. Expect some bullying though as the older one put the youngsters in their place in the pecking order. It's not nice, but it's a necessary thing for chickens and don't intervene unless the bullying gets out of hand.

Breeds wise I cannot say. it really depends on what you want from your chickens. Do you want eggs, pets, meat or lawn ornaments? Have a look at the Breeds section for more info on the different breeds to help you decide. Also look at the Learning Center for more on chickens raising etc. Enjoy the site!
