I have 2 Cochin hens that went broody a little over a week apart (even incubating Australorp eggs). Well the first one hatched out 3 Austrachins (father is Cochin) and is raising them, The second one only hatched out one of her own eggs, but the problem is the hen with the 3 chicks hatched out about 9 days before the others is mean to the chick of the second hen. The second hen has no problem with the chicks of the first one and even lets them climb on her. I put a divider up in the garage where I have them to separate them but they can still see and talk to each other. When will it be safe to let them be together again? Thanks in advance

It takes chicks about two weeks to become strong enough to avoid other hens. There's sometimes some drama when integrating mom and chicks back into the flock, especially if there's other moms. Let the chicks get some strength and size before putting them together.

Thanks very much! That also helps me with another question I was wondering about. I have 5 babies I incubated that will be 3 weeks old tomorrow and am about ready to send them out to the garage also :D
