Need more clues, please.

This spring I bought 2 chicks at the local feed store. The guy told me they were cochins and I believed him. Now, as they mature, it's clear that they are NOT cochins. I don't mind this a bit, but I'm trying to figure out what kind they are.

I am leaning towards black copper marans. What are some specific traits of this breed?

Freckles looks just like the pictures that pop up on a Google search. He has feathers on the outer parts of each foot. He's got the mullet thing going on.

Obviously it would be much easier if you had a picture to look at. I'll try to catch him for a photo shoot.

By mullet I suppose you mean a crest, Black Copper Marans shouldn't have crests. They could be mixes, but a picture would help.

Sold as a cochin, feather footed but with a crest....my money's on a silkie cochin mix. course, it's all speculation without a pic.
