Everyone keeps sticking their noses up when my mom mentions eating duck eggs.. weirdos... so what feedback have you gotten with selling duck eggs? What do you normally price them at? I was thinking of placing them in the cooler and putting the cooler by the mailbox with a sign saying "Fresh duck eating eggs - $?.?? " I could even place a little note about how they are picked out of the coop everymorning fresh by 7:30 .

So should I try it out?

Could you take some plastic bottles, fill 2/3's with water and freeze them overnight? Then you can put them in the bottom of the cooler with a towel over them and the eggs on top.

If people are having a hard time with thought of eating duck eggs, maybe you can write up a little something about good they are in omelets, baked goods, and whatnot.

Are you going to be there also? I hate to be pessimistic, but someone may just come along and take the cooler and the eggs. Not everyone out there is honest.
If your willing to take the risk, then I say go for it.

There are a lot of different roadside things around here that rely on honesty. There's several cut flower stands, berries, people with extra vegies put them out. Considering that most of these stands have been sitting there unmanned for years, I would say that in general people are honest. Most do have a locked payment box, but some don't even have that.

I think I may try it then, because most of my neighbors know me and we wave when im walking down the road or when we pass each other in cars. I havent had a problem with a neighbor the last three years ive lived here.

Ill go ahead and give my grandma the dozen she wanted and then start collecting.

Absolutely! I think it's a great idea. You could even just say for folks to leave what they think the eggs are worth, although some people might hesitate to take any eggs because they're embarrassed to have to name a price. On the other hand, folks might surprise you and leave you more money than you would have asked for them. Especially in an area where folks are so honest!

Also, I would make up a little brochure about how wonderful duck eggs are. They really are delicious. And you can offer a 100% money-back guarantee (up to the price of one dozen eggs)--"Try them NO RISK. You'll be hooked--guaranteed!"

Don't forget to include nutritional information, information about how great they are for baking (better loft, more moisture), and frying/cooking tips and maybe even a recipe or two.

Let us know how it goes. I would love to do something like that, but I think I'm going to just have to sell my eggs to friends and acquaintances by word of mouth. We're not really on a major thoroughfare!
