Next year in the spring I'm going to try keeping a really small flock (2 to 4 hens only) in my backyard.

I want to pick a breed that is small and quiet.

I live in Cleveland, Ohio so I want something that can handle our winters.

All tips welcome.

Well, they aren't small, but my quiet breeds are my Delaware, my Salmon Faverolle, my GC Maran and my black star & cinnamon queen. They are the best layers too.

from S. Florida! Glad you joined us! I really don't know which breeds are the most quiet. Surely someone here can point you in the right direction.

from a fellow Buckeye. So glad you joined. I have some bantam cochin that are a quiet breed and are very lovely to look at.

I have six hens, four would be considered quiet, tame, and lots of fun. The Wyandottes are a bit high-strung. I think the Buff Orpington is the sweetest. A real pet. Welcome to BYC and have fun with your hens! I'll be interested what you decide upon.
