Okay heres the deal. I plan on building a 12x12 coop for my girls. Ive got most of the 2x4s for the framing and the plywood for the sides. What Im missing is the wood for the floors and the 2x6s for bracing. When we bought this house the people left a bunch of old wood behind. Well we have it on a metal platform so its not rotting away on the ground. There are a bunch of 1x4s and 4x4s. Since our dog got really sick the vet bill took all of our 'coop money'. So Im trying to figure out a way to use the 1x4s and 4x4s to make up for what I dont have. And Ive already made up my mind, I have to have wood floors. I dont think I can do the dirt floor coop thing, sorry.

Anybody have any ideas or tips to give me?

How many 4x4 do you have and how long? are they treated lumber? 1x4 will be no good for the floor, they might be good for nest boxes and other interior things

They are 8 ft long and I would say I have at least 20 of them. I know there is more than that, but it a little too dark out right now. I counted at least 17 good ones that I could use though. Im not sure if they are treated or not.

Well that's great news, I am sure they are treated and that's very good too.
Here what I would do to save on the floor:
I will use 9 pieces of the 4x4 as a structure to start the hole building with. and I mean if the building will be 12x12, I will choos the 4 corners of this building and square it, then dig the first 4 holes for the 4x4 at least 2 feet in ground and set the posts and add concrete mix to each one, then I eill dig another hole in the middle of each two posts and do the same with the concrete deal.
Then after they are square and dry, next dat I will frane the floor as if I am building a deck, now after you have a solid floor and level, then you can start framing.
and BTW if you have the 9 posts in the ground like I explaind, you can use some 2x4s as joints for the floor and you don't need any 2x6.
I hope I am clear and not confusing you, my problem is that I a kind of a construction boy who take the Hammer and the nails and start doing it, but not that good in explaining things.

Omran

Sorry for bad spelling.

Thanks so much Omran! DH just told me he should be able to get some cinder blocks(the two or three hole kind) would that also help out? For the most part I understand what your saying, the part that gets me is the "then I will dig another hole in the middle of each two posts and do the same with the concrete deal." Thats the part you lost me on, sorry. Are you saying I will have 4 'corner' post in the ground and then between them have another one? Im a visual person sorry. So 1-4 are my corner post and then the ? are other ones right? If you like youre more than welcome to come and build it for me. Heck I'll fed ya and house ya while youre here too. Endless amount of eggs..

Yes that exactly what I ment and th (?) are also posts in the ground, to carry a lot of weaight from the building.
and you can go to the extrem and put one right in the middle of the drwaing above.

Good luck.

Sorry if Im bothering you with all my questions..but how would I go about making a deck ontop of the posts? Would I run a 4x4 from point 1 to point 2 and so forth? When I orginally had other plans for the 4x4s I went to hardware store to see what I could use to 'nail' them together with. All they offered was HUGE 10 inch spikes. What the..
