Attached to our chicken coop is a covered run, which is attached to a fenced in field.
Well, I should say WAS a covered run. We had attached the corrugated fiberglass panels to 2by4s that ran the span of the run. The wind tore them up and off and we are still looking for some of them!
What can we use that is stronger/heavier, but will still let enough light through so some weeds and grass can grow?

We've collected several sets of glass shower doors to use for this purpose. if you leave the frames on them you can screw them to your 2X4's.

As for growing some grass and weeds in the run, good luck! we can't keep a single blade even in our open runs.

i don't know how big your run is but you could partition their run and alternate their access to each run, also wetting down the run at night after they are locked up would help the grass recover.

What if you put the fiberglass back on and added some 2x2's or some other dimentional strips across the the top of them with long screws that go through the strips-fiberglass-and into whatever is below. May help keep the wind from taking it away again. Mine is an A-frame that I covered with plastic sheeting, hopefully that holds up through the winter, and a tarp across the top section. You can see it if you click on my link below (in blue)

I may have to do that...if I can find them all . too late in the year to find enough shower doors or freebie glass panes; the snow's already given us a sampler.

if you know of anyone who grows flowers that have clear panel runs every once in a while they replace them most of the time they will give you the old panels just to get rid of them. It makes a good strong top (best place to get them would be a large production greenhouse
