We recently bought 10 chickens from a local market and was told that 9 of them had just started laying eggs and the other girl is still a real young one. Well.... We have gotten then a nesting area that is fancy in my opinion (it is slanted so when they lay eggs, they roll to the front for gathering), we have put bedding in their coop which is an old milkhouse with a square chizeled out so they can go outside into yet a fenced in area. I have feed for them available 24/7 along with fresh water and oyster shells to eat when needed. And we even have a rooster in with them to protect them and do his rooster duties.. BUT. It's been over a week and I just now today found 2 eggs and they were on the coop floor. What can I do to help this egg laying business? I leave the light on for them at night and we have made a roosting area with a branch for them but they still won't work with me on producing egss? Can anyone possible tell me what I am doing wrong or what we could do to make it better for them? Please and thank you!

It's probably the stress of a new environment. Just give them some time to settle in.

Chickens, like lots of animals (humans included) don't like Big Giant Changes. Give 'em some time.

Wooden eggs in the nestbox, lock them in so they must lay there, make sure the box is clean and dark. It'll happen. :)
