Good morning. We have peafowl and have been told to start feeding them a high protein food when they get older (other than the chick starter we now feed). Now we are in search of reliable information about the feed such as % protein, and where to buy it. Our girls are five months old.
Thanks for the help and Merry Christmas.

Actually the advice you got was backwards. They need the higher protein feed when they are younger.
At the age your birds are, they can be cut back to a game bird maintenance feed which is about 13-15%.
Starter feed for peafowl up to 6 weeks should be about 30% protein.
After 6 weeks, they can be cut back to 20% protein.
If you've been feeding a chicken chick starter, that is probably 18-20% protein.

The reason for all this is that young birds will consume lots of insects, rodents and reptiles high in protein.
Look for game bird starter for higher protein feed.

We bought a 12 x 16 barn for them and fenced in a 16 x 30 ft lot for them. These girls do not want to come out into the yard. They sit on the rafters for hours. Is this normal for cooler weather? Thanks for the advice.
