I have been given a dog house in great condition to convert to a coop. I plan on adding 2 or 3 nesting boxes a window roosting bar. I will make a door for the original opening of the house and add a chicken door. Also plan on isluating since we have cold winters and adding an easy to clean floor. We will be raising the coop off the ground building a large enclosed run for them. (All sounds easy right?LOL!)
The dimensions of the dog house is 33" tall, 45" wide, 33 " deep. My problem is that I think it mightbe too small for my 4 bird suburban flock; I am getting 2 wyandottes and 2 Eggers.I am concerned it will be too small for the very cold winters in Illinois, any suggestions on how to make it work? Will the roosting boxes give me it give me more room?
It looks very similar to this dog house at Petco:
