This is my first hatch. I have made some rings from paper towels to stop the eggs rolling around and knocking each other in the incubator. I am about to go into lockdown and don't know if i should leave the eggs in the rings or let them free to roll around. Does it help the chick to rotate if it can move the egg? But under a hen in a nest i cannot see it would move around. What should i do?

I leave mine roll around, I don't place anything especialy something that can absorb moisture under an egg.

Unless you are using those plastic berry baskets to divide your hatching tray (to keep marked eggs separate or something) I wouldn't introduce anything at "lock down." No rings, no paper towels, etc. They could get in the way or prevent a chick struggling in the shell from getting to a good position to hatch. The eggs do move around under a hen during hatching, they just might not be able to roll as far as they can in a spacious incubator. Good luck with your hatch! Once the majority of your chicks have hatched and dried, you might want to remove them if the incubator is so crowded that the hatchlings are pushing the not-quite-hatched eggs around. Take out the eggshells, too- I had one chick get stuck inside of another chick's empty shell because it rolled onto the end of a pipped egg like a cap!

I've put mine in egg boxes. A lot of people on here do. It's quite handy, especially if they pip underneath. I don't like seeing my eggs rolling around, or chicks knocking other eggs either, so once they hatch, I remove them quick, as long as no-one else has pipped or is zipping.

Any chicks yet? Or pipping?
Sadly no. Still hanging in there though. And getting a bit desperate. Day 23 today and nothing. Really worried I did something wrong
