My peachick was having problems breathing so I read the advice on this thread. I went to Tractor Supply. The salesman insisted that injectable Tylan 50 could be used orally and in the water. Tylan 50 injectable was all they had. Could someone tell me if I can safely use it orally?

Hi @BromelyRidge Birds :frow Welcome To BYC

@casportpony is very knowledgeable about Peachicks so hopefully she will weigh in.

Injectable Tylan50 can be given orally or by injection. You will need to weigh your chick to give the proper dosage. You don't want to mix it with the water though - direct dose her.
As for the correct dosage, I cannot advise - I'm not sure if it's the same for Peacocks as it is for chickens:oops:

Thank you for your help. I wish I had thoroughly looked over this site and found the forum before yesterday. The salesman told me to put it in the water and to dose orally. My chick died some time in the night. The others seem fine as I separated them quickly. I will be reading and learning for a while.

Sorry for your loss. Injectable Tylan must be given orally or by injection, not in the water. It also must be given no less than twice a day and the total dose for a peachick is probably 25 mg to 30 mg per pound per day. Since it can cause serious injection site reactions I would give it orally, and I would do my best to shoot for every 6 to 8 hours, but absolutely no less than every 12 hours.
