Hello everyone, I have had these great docile and friendly chickens for about a year and I was told that they are Brahma chickens and I believed that for a while until I started reading about the breed and its characteristics. My major observation that contradicts that these are Brahma’s is the comb, it’s not a pie comb like Brahma should be which makes be believe that they might be Cochin’s or a mix of both.

Can someone please correct my information or confirm it? Your help is appreciated. Thank you

Please don’t ask me how their offspring are White or black and while like that. I guess they take from their father

I think they are more likely Cochin crosses, since they have single combs. Some of them have crests, so there is a crested breed in their lineage somewhere.

They are diffinitely not pure bred of anything and I would guess that they are more than just a cross of two breeds. I would think a Brahmas and Silkie crosses bird, bred with a cochin would pretty much produce birds looking like that. I'm seeing crests which would be a silkie trait but no black skin which makes me think the silkie if that was the breed the crest came from, was a brought in a couple generations back. I see some brahma influence with the small wattles and the small dewlap looking skin between them. and the Single combs could have came from cochins or possibly another single combed breed. But either way, I say they have more than just two breeds in them but they are really cool looking birds. I love the looks of crested mutts like these and I would eventually like to cross Brahmas and Silkies and get something similar to these and keep a small flock of them mainly for broodies.
