So I have a mixed flock of 24 birds ranging from 22 weeks - 4 years, not including the chickys which are penned up and separate. I am a paranoid freak and always think something is wrong with someone. I am looking for a preventative schedule to keep my birds happy and healthy.
The chickens free range sun up to sun down (most stay in the fenced in backyard which is approx. one acre) although they have access to more but rarely leave.
I feed crumbles and water daily.
I mix DE into their food several times a month.
I will sprinkle DE into their pens/coops as needed (several times a month?)
I add apple cider vinegar to their water several times a month.
I always try to look at their poops for any signs of anything but feel like I never see anything but I'm not sure if I could be missing something. Will I know it if I see it?
I also try to check the friendly birds regularly for mites or lice but don't see signs - BUT again I don't know if I am missing something. Will I know it when I see it?
I will also add probiotics/vitamins/electrolytes into their water several times a month depending on what I think they may need.
Am I missing anything? Is there a schedule that I could adhere to that will decrease the risk of mites, lice, worms, illness, etc?
