Hi! I have a couple questions that I need answered--

1- if I want to make chicks and the eggs they will at some point lay organic, will they still be organic if they are vaccinated as chicks?

2- if my chicks are on unorganic feed for the first week of their lives and I transition them into an organic feed, will them and the eggs they will at some point lay be organic?

Thanks for any advice!

Are you looking for technical advice? Like a hen who eats organic feed should lay organic eggs. Or are you looking for legal advice as far as what is considered organic if you sell the eggs and label them organic?

Here are the rules for organic, assuming you are in the USA. If you are elsewhere the rules are different.

Vaccinations are not specifically mentioned but I'd think it depends on what they are vaccinated with. You should check with your certifying authority. In the USA you can contact your county extension office for help with this.

If the animal eats anything from a non-organic source after the second day of life they can never be certified as organic. It is not required that the egg they hatched from was organic, it only matters what happened after hatch. The rules for animals is different from plants because in plants the seed has to be organic.
