I have been keeping chickens for about 12 years, mainly Bantams but over the past 3 years I have included some rescue hens which live contentedly with my Bantams. My Bantams are a mixture, some Silver Laced Wyandottes and a Sablepoot cockerel. I have hatched many chicks recently from this combination and have a lovely variety. One hatching miraculously gave me 5 all hens! I found BackYardChickens while searching for the answer to a query of something that I had not experienced before. My garden is my other great hobby, learning to grow things that my free ranging chickens won’t eat or knowing what they do & protecting them. I have two Chihuahuas that love my chickens especially the chicks. They will sit for ages just watching them.

In addition to all the chicken chatter, you'll find a lot of gardeners here on BYC. This is one of the gardening threads I especially enjoy, feel free to join us:

It's nice to have you here!
