Almost all of the predators that would be a threat to your dog and children are nocturnal. If you let your dog out after dark to potty, install a motion sensing light so it will turn on when you let the dog out, and it should spook off any thing that would otherwise try for your dog. Otherwise what everyone else has said is true. All these predators exist and use your yard.

What about attaching welded wire to the corral fence. It would preserve the visual appeal of the corral fence and keep your dog on your side of the fence and your neighbor's chickens on their side of the fence. If you talk to your neighbor and express concern about your dog hurting their chickens, they might split the cost. And tell them about BYC!!
