I'm expecting my chicks this May. My coop is pretty much complete. My nest boxes are lower than my roosts and are on opposite walls. Should I restrict access to the nest boxes until they are laying age to prevent nest sleeping or leave them open and do battle later?

I would close th boxes for a while till they get used to the roost and then I open the boxes for them when they are about 16 weeks old. that how I always did it and it works for me.

Glad that you asked that.. I was wondering the same thing, though my chicks are here and my coop isn't done yet..

IMHO: I would somehow close off the section for now, until they are laying age and then open it up so they can have access to it. Ive had one myself and then have heard of lots of others, that their chickens want to use it to sleep in. They sleep in it, so it gets poo in it. All around just messy!
