Ok...So here's my question - do/can/will ducks lay in a specific nest box? One of my ducks lays in the same spot everyday (after going through 3 other 'nest sites'...however my other girls are laying out in the open. They know how to 'go to bed'...but I'm wondering...do they use nest boxes like chickens? Is there a way to train them to?

All mine use nest 2 nest (large) boxes. I keep them locked up till they have laid then let them out to run around. Also I leave a fake plastic egg in each box which helps. Once in a while I will find one on the ground but its rare at this point.

I have an Eglu for my trio of ducks (with an extended run area).
The Eglu has a "nest" type indentation in the sleeping area where, in my experience, hens preferred to lay.
Since acquiring ducks (Khaki Campbells), from day one they have laid in the nesting area. At first, only one of my trio were laying and regularly laid in the nesting area (always before 6am).
Now, both of my female ducks are in lay and they both lay in the nesting area, within the Eglu, before 6am. Great news for me! They did this instinctively, with no prompting and the eggs are laid within an inch of one another = one has to move so the other can lay.
