Here is a picture of the current inside of the our little coop:

I've read that the roost needs to be higher than the nesting boxes, so I'm wondering if we should lower the nesting boxes to where the yellow rectangle is.

Notes that might help:
The coop itself will be elevated about 2 feet once we get it on its forever base. We'd move the board so that it had a lip on the bottom. We're adding a window on the left hand side of the coop and a latched access door besides wherever the nesting boxes will be. I know it's little but we're only allowed 2 hens at the moment and a run is also being built.

They're currently out so that I could prime and paint that area so it's not a big deal to move them, just wondering if it would be better for the girls.
What it looks like with the nest boxes lowered:

The roost is already higher.

I'm more worried about size, hope you don't plan on having more than 2 birds.

No, not in that coop for sure! We would definitely build something bigger if we moved and were allowed to have more birds. We're planning on predator proofing the run so that we can leave the pop door open all the time as well. This one is more of a starter coop to see if we like having hens.

So, the roost only has to be higher than the bottom of the nest boxes? It's exactly even with the top if I put them back where they were in picture #1.

Yes just higher than the bottom of the boxes. I'd just remove the top on the boxes, sorry didn't notice it before.
