Is it a bad idea to use cat litter in nest boxes? Can you just scoop the chicken poo out like a litter box? Has anyone ever dsone this? THANK! YOU!

As I have understood this, you do not want to encourage pooping in the nest boxes, though it does happen. You want to arrange the roosts higher than the nest boxes so the birds will choose to sleep on the HIGHER spot! They poop more on the roost and that means less poop anywhere else. But you definitely want to clean out any soiled nest material. I would think that cat litter may encourage the chickens to poo in the wrong place!

I wouldn't use cat litter in nest boxes. My chickens will eat almost anything and that would probably include cat litter if they could get to it ! Even the litter companies discourage using clumping litter with kittens because of ingestion.
