nest box question??

Hi!

Was wondering if it's absolutely essential to have nest boxes be 100% enclosed or if having them open faced is acceptable as well.
100% enclosed meaning that the nest box is inside another structure?
 
not sure I understand what you mean by inside another structure? they have to be able to get in, so............


open faced with some type of lip on the front to keep the bedding and eggs from falling out is fine. I saw a coop with a front on it with big circles cut out and liked the way it looked so i did my new ones that way. My oldest chicks are just 7 weeks so I have a ways to go to find out what they think of them.

They will like something roomy enough to be comfy for turning around in, but tight enough to be snuggly and private feeling. This is why I think putting a front on it like this will help:
 
Argh sorry for the confusion i explained it terribly. I guess I mean exactly the way you did yours, but if all of that was in an outdoor area.

The circle idea is REALLY awesome!!!! Those look great!
