nest box V1.0

way in the back is my nest box with a plastic egg in it. My birds are about 20 weeks and their combs are getting red so I think something will happen soon.

I'm using an old cat litter box as a nest for my 5 gals. I have a ? tho, I plan to replace the back tarp with a plywood back with a egg flap cut in it so we can get eggs without going into the coop( it's only 4' tall. I'm 5'). At first I thought of putting a shelf on the wood back at the flap site, now I;m afraid that that will be too heavy for the frame. If I put the cat box on some kind of riser what would be best? a table like thing or cement blocks? Or something I'm not thinking of right now?

LOL,,,all I can see are the girls tails! Anyway I use dishpans for my nestboxes, my coops are converted dog houses and I put perches in there and someone I know said she uses little crates and dishpans. Doesn't much matter as they free range during the day and lay their eggs in the hay storage for the horses! But when winter rolls around and if it is REALLY stormy or bitter cold I will leave their pens closed and most times they will lay in the pans, I fill them with shavings and hay. Anything will work!

Ohhh, and one of my pens I have to duck also to go in and it is a pain but I feel it is easier than trying to figure out a different way. I have little time and unfortunately am not to handy in that department. I do not want to cut into the backs of the houses as then drafts get in when the cold wind blows in winter. People on this board come up with great ideas so hopefully someone will have an idea for you, I think it is a cute little set-up.
